The Ladies Section is thriving and expanding and we are all set for a wonderful season of golfing and socialising.
Opening 3 Club Competition On Monday 6th April we will be holding an opening 3 club competition to get the Monday group kick-started. This will involve 12 holes followed by a soup and sandwich lunch, plus a surprise.
Handicaps Anyone wanting to gain a handicap will need to get three cards in, played over the 18 holes, marked by a fellow golfer or a “responsible” person. One of the cards needs to be marked during an 18 hole competition.
Supplementary Scores You may return up to a maximum of supplementary 10 scores per annum and maximum of 2 per week. To submit a supplementary score you must register your intention to do so before starting your round. Do this by informing someone - the person who is going to mark your card or a member of Clubhouse Staff. Clearly write Supplementary Score on the card and, at the end of your round, ensure that it is signed by yourself and your marker before returning it to Loraine or posting it in the box in the locker room.
Maintaining your Handicap To maintain your handicap you will need to put in at least three cards during the season. 9 hole competitions count, but you should play at least one 18 holes.
9 Hole Competitions We can now play occasional 9 hole competitions over the designated first 9 holes of the course and these must take the form of a Stableford sweep. They will be played on the first Monday of each calendar month - in the mornings and also in the evenings.(April will be the 2nd Monday - dates will be posted on the Notice Board). The evening group will also need to book times in advance.
Knock-out Competitions Once the season gets under way we will be setting up for the Braithwaite Cup (match play competition, using full handicap allowance). The more of you who enter, the better, as this is a good way of getting to know other players. If you don’t have an official handicap you can play off 36, ...so have a go! We are introducing a new similar competition called the Mix and Match Trophy and this will be a mixed foursomes match play format. Again, this should be great fun and good social golf - so please put your names down - you can play off 36 if you have no handicap. There is a very remote possibility you might get a handsome partner who plays off 3!!
Friendly Matches We will be playing our usual friendly matches with Minto - the first match is scheduled for May and we are hoping to set another one up for a Tuesday in late August. We are also trying to set something similar set up with Torwoodlee. Again, as these matches are friendly, you could play off 36. We usually play greensomes with teams of 8, so if we have more than that number we will just draw names for the first match and then try and make sure everyone gets a game after that.
Notice Board It’s really important to keep an eye on the Notice Board so that you can see what competitions are on and so that you can put your name down (if you want to) for the friendly matches, outings and knock-out competitions. If you are computer-literate it would be helpful if you would e.mail me (john.viv@tiscali.co.uk) to give me your e.mail address, so that I can keep you up-to-date with news as the season progresses.
Jaunting We will be organising a couple of outings – we'll let you know.
Good Timing Because we are getting to be a bigger group, it is vital that we are ready to tee off in good time; otherwise we may be in danger of losing the teetime. On Mondays, please arrive at 9.15 so that we can get the draw done and get everyone off promptly.
Speeding Up Another area that we should aim to improve is our speed of play. This means getting efficiently round the course (a competent lady golfer is one who can walk briskly, concentrate briefly – take a perfect swing and hold two conversations all at the same time!) The important thing is that we be aware of other golfers and call them through if we are holding them up (eg looking for a lost ball) or if we fall a hole behind the group in front.
In the Pink - See the top of the page for the Monday ladies in their new pink jumpers.
