|

Set in the Tweed Valley near Peebles, to the West of Ashkirk and New Woll Estate, Cardrona is the newest of the Borders Courses. Designed by Dave Thomas, this Championship course is a real test of Golf. Although quite long, the lie of the land is relatively flat as it runs along the valley floor following the river Tweed. The river Tweed (famous for salmon fishing) itself does not really come into play but there are a number of water hazards to keep you on your toes. The greens are well protected and demand accurate iron play.
With the Cadrona Macdonald Hotel adjacent to the course there are good facilities which make a good day out for golf in Peebleshire.
You should note that Freedom of the Fairways golfers require to pay a supplement to play with there vouchers.
Although Cadrona Village overlooks the course there are few amenities other than those within the Hotel. However Peebles is nearby and is well worth a visit with its attractive high street with many interesting shops, cafes and Hotels with opportunities for a bite to eat. Nearby is the Glentress Forest where Mountain Biking and hiking are major pursuits. The Forestry Commission with funding from the Lottery has created a number of Bike trails that attract cyclists from all over. It is also home to the Red Bull trail which is a downhill course not for the faint hearted.
